Summary
A staffer to a leading Senate Democrat was fired over the weekend after he used his position to book the Judiciary Committee hearing room to film amateur pornography within the US Capitol.
- Daily Caller reporter Henry Rodgers broke the story on Friday afternoon, publishing a graphic clip from the video with the staffer’s face and the nether regions of himself and his partner blurred out. The clip was allegedly shared by the staffer in a group chat for gay men in politics.
- The staffer, later identified as Aiden Maese-Czeropski, a junior aide to Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Ben Cardin (D-MD), can be seen on all-fours having anal sex with a man on the same dais where senators have questioned Supreme Court nominees.
- As Maese-Czeropski posted on a since-deleted X-rated Instagram account, “In this very room: Sonia Sotomayor had her confirmation hearing. James comey [sic] testified on Russian interference in the 2016 elections. Aidan got some thick German sausage & a jager [sic] sauce finish.” The post tagged a DC-based German man, who has since deleted his account.
- Cardin’s office fired Maese-Czeropski within 24 hours of the report’s release. In a terse statement to Politico on Saturday morning, his office said: “Aidan Maese-Czeropski is no longer employed by the U.S. Senate. We will have no further comment on othis personnel matter.”
- Maese-Czeropski was apparently moonlighting as an amateur pornographic actor for weeks before he was fired. As The Spectator reported, “The public Twitter account of the audacious young ‘twink’ is comprised almost solely of him in flagrante delicto with his older ‘bear’ partner. The images and videos are explicit — and conspicuously and deliberately contain the staffer’s face.”
- The fired staffer released a statement on LinkedIn entirely lacking in contrition: “This has been a difficult time for me, as I have been attacked for who I love to pursue a political agenda. While some of my actions in the past have shown poor judgement, I love my job and would never disrespect my workplace. Any attempts to characterize my actions otherwise are fabricated and I will be exploring what legal options are available to me in these matters.”
- It should be noted that the comments on Maese-Czeropski’s LindedIn post include scores of gay men rebuking him for trying to characterize his firing as being “attacked for who I love to pursue a political agenda” instead of the natural consequence of exceedingly poor judgment.
- Capitol Police have said they are “looking into” the matter, so Maese-Czeropski is probably smart to be “exploring what legal options are available to me.”
- Mediaite noted that Maese-Czeropski was the same staffer that Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), one of two Jewish Republicans in Congress, identified as the person who shouted “Free Palestine” at him in a House Office Building.
- The Guardian observed Hart 216, the room where the video-recorded tryst allegedly took place, “carries significant historical distinctions. It hosted the 9/11 commission hearings, and James Comey, the former FBI director, gave his testimony on Donald Trump there in 2017. The then Senate majority leader Tom Daschle received an anthrax-laced letter there in October 2001 just after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and the room saw Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor became the first Latina to attend nomination hearings for the nation’s highest court.”
- NBC News felt the need to clarify that the video was merely being “alleged by conservative outlets” and their coverage seemed to imply that the story is conservatives’ response to a Democratic staffer filming a sex tape in the Capitol is the story, not that a Democratic staffer filming a sex tape in the Capitol is newsworthy in and of itself.
- Fox News ripped NBC’s coverage of the indecent incident. “NBC News came under fire on social media over a “ridiculous” headline that seemed to fault ‘conservative news outlets’ for reporting that a Democrat Senate staffer filmed a gay sex video in a Capitol Hill hearing room,” Lindsay Kornick wrote. The story also quoted Republican operative Tim Murtaugh who said the NBC story “belongs in the Media Bias Hall of Fame.”
- The Washington Free Beacon observed “This is not Maese-Czeropski’s first time in the limelight. President Joe Biden featured the Cardin staffer in a 2020 campaign ad, prompting thanks from Maese-Czeropski’s mother.”
- The New York Post looked into Maese-Czeropski’s background and found him to be “an environmentalist who has been climbing the ranks of the Democratic Party since he was a teenager and has a history of posting risque comments on social media.” For example, Maese-Czeropski once posted on Venmo “I want Joe Biden to spit in my mouth.”
