Last week’s bombshell of a Chinese spy’s close relationship with multiple Democratic politicians has been followed by calls for one politician involved to step down from a key national security committee. But many mainstream media outlets aren’t covering the story at all.

After reports last week of a Chinese spy getting too close for comfort to a number of California Democratic politicians, calls that started last week for Congressman Eric Swalwell to leave or be removed from the House Intelligence Committee have grown louder.
- On Tuesday, more than a dozen prominent House Republicans petitioned Speaker Pelosi to have Swalwell removed from the House Select Intelligence Committee, members of which receive classified briefings on sensitive issues related to national security.
- Fellow Intel Committee member Chris Stewart said Swalwell should “recuse himself from the committee” while the committee conducts their own investigation into the matter.
- Republican House Leader Kevin McCarthy recently blasted Pelosi and Congressman Adam Schiff for keeping Swalwell on Intel after spending much of the last four years talking about foreign influence in America.
- Outgoing Congressman Peter King wrote an op-ed urging Swalwell to resign from the committee, saying he “will accept Swalwell’s claim that he ended all involvement with Fang after he was informed by the FBI that she was a spy.”
- Senator Ron Johnson believes it is likely there are more Members of Congress “compromised” by China.
- The Fang-Swalwell incident is just one of many concerns about Chinese espionage and infiltration of America, as one Chinese professor was videoed saying there is a “network of ‘China’s old friends’ on Wall Street, who had access and control over the D.C. politicians” and are more useful now that Biden will be president.
- What few outlets on the left that are reporting on this story frame it as “Republicans trying to make this an issue” and leaning on Swalwell believing it was leaked the Trump Administration for being a vocal opponent.
- As calls for Swalwell’s resignation began, the San Francisco Chronicle claimed “Republicans seized” on the issue.
- As of 10:30 AM Wednesday, NBC News, The New York Times, and CBS News have not reported on the incident.
- Fox News’ coverage of the Republicans’ letter was mostly sympathetic to their intentions while the network separately reported on the White House blasting mainstream media outlets ignoring the Swalwell story.
- Mollie Hemingway believes mainstream and legacy media are not covering this story because they want to gain or maintain favor with China, claiming “the media….seem to be compromised by China.”
- Miranda Devine wrote in the New York Post’s opinion pages that the Fang-Swalwell is just one of many national security concerns as a recent leak of Chinese Communist Party membership rolls reveal extensive ties to American corporations.
